PRESS RELEASE
Hellenic Copper Development Institute (HCDI) and Hellas Gold join forces for a sustainable future
In a landscape where securing Europe’s supply of mineral raw materials is more critical than ever, the Hellenic Copper Development Institute (HCDI) and Hellas Gold announce a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening the copper market and enhancing Greece’s position in the global industry.
This partnership brings together Hellas Gold, Greece’s sole copper producer and a key player in Europe through Eldorado Gold’s investment in the Skouries project, and the scientific expertise and extensive network of the HCDI. The joint effort will focus on leveraging the growing global demand for copper—a vital mineral for the green energy transition and technological progress—while contributing to strategies that reinforce its role as a critical resource.
Key Objectives of the Partnership:
These initiatives represent decisive steps toward a future where Greece emerges as a central pillar in the European critical minerals value chain, leveraging copper and other natural resources with vision and responsibility.
HCDI President Evangelos Moustakas expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating: "I am particularly pleased with our partnership with Hellas Gold. This partnership will allow us to harness the latest technological advancements and develop innovative solutions for the copper sector. Our goal is to position Greece as a leader in sustainable mining, creating new opportunities for the economy and society."
Christos Balaskas, President of Hellas Gold and Vice President, Commercial, Growth, and External Relations of Eldorado Gold in Greece, commented: "We are proud that Greece’s responsible copper mining, through our Skouries project, will redefine the country’s role on Europe’s mining map. Strategic allies like HCDI are essential to this effort. Our collaboration opens new horizons for sustainable mining activity in Greece. By combining our expertise with the Institute’s scientific excellence, we will develop innovative solutions that support the circular economy, enhance the country’s competitiveness, and provide new momentum and prospects for Greece’s copper sector."
