Hellas Gold, the mining company developing the Kassandra Mines in Northeastern Halkidiki, has donated a state-of-the-art ultrasound system to Papageorgiou Hospital.
This modern equipment, known as the Voluson SWIFT BT23, represents the first installation of its kind in a Greek public hospital and is already in use at the 1st University Obstetrics-Gynecology Clinic, specifically for the needs of the Medically Assisted Reproduction Unit.
Equipped with an integrated suite of artificial intelligence tools and automation technologies (Sono-Automation), the Voluson SWIFT BT23 system reduces complexity, enhances efficiency, and ensures consistency in examinations. It provides ultrasound imaging of exceptional clarity and, according to clinicians at the clinic, offers automated measurement and classification of follicles, particularly beneficial for women undergoing assisted reproduction cycles.
The delivery of the ultrasound system to Papageorgiou Hospital was overseen by Theodosis Gontias, Coordinator of Community Relations at Hellas Gold, on Thursday, May 23, 2024. Present at the handover ceremony were Michalis Karaviotis, President of the Hospital's Board of Directors; Eustratios Kolibianakis, Professor at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Head of the Medically Assisted Reproduction Unit; and Leonidas Zepiridis, Professor at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in the same clinic.
Mr. Gontias emphasized that within the framework of its Corporate Social Responsibility Program, Hellas Gold prioritizes strengthening healthcare structures in Central Macedonia. “We are pleased that this advanced equipment will also contribute to addressing a national issue, that of infertility”, he added.
Mr. Karaviotis warmly thanked Hellas Gold for the donation, highlighting that the initiative sets an example of corporate responsibility and social solidarity. He assured that the utilization of the equipment will significantly enhance the level of services provided by the hospital.
