With commitment to environmental, social and economic sustainability, we develop and implement leading practices to approach the challenges of mining responsibly, while respecting the natural resources and our social partners. From our vision through to our actions and behaviours, we aim at improvement and progress to achieve successful and sustainable growth for all. Prosperity and sustainability form the foundation of our business.

The sustainability strategy of Hellas Gold is built upon 4 main pillars:

  • We provide assurance that our operations do not cause, support or contribute to human rights abuses, unlawful behaviours or breaches of international humanitarian law. 
  • Our products advance society and create and store value. We follow finished-product handling protocols during loading, export and transport, and our contractors and suppliers are fully complied with the Hellas Gold operational standards.

  • We recognize the impacts of mining to our host communities. In consideration of their unique cultural and social characteristics, we seek to address their local needs and objectives. 
  • We prioritize hiring from the local workforce and suppliers to bring positive impacts on the local and national economy.

We protect the ecosystems surrounding our sites by integrating the latest technologies and industry-leading practices.

Sustainability and responsible governance are the pillars of our business approach. Our sustainability strategy is supervised by the Sustainability Committee of the Board of Directors of Eldorado Gold and is subject to the policies of Hellas Gold and Eldorado Gold.

SIMS

Sustainability Integrated Management System

In addition to the systems we use for our compliance with regulations and guidelines, our parent company, Eldorado Gold, provides a global framework for both its own operations and those of its subsidiaries. This framework outlines a common set of sustainability standards that govern our business practices.  

The Sustainability Integrated Management System (SIMS) is a voluntary, internal system that provides a set of mandatory standards in the areas of occupational health and safety, environmental and social performance, security and the general management of sustainability topics.

It embeds mandatory performance-based standards that we are expected to follow in these areas. Our relationship with SIMS is dynamic and participatory. SIMS offers quantifiable effectiveness tools that help us discover innovative ways to improve our operations, while striving to meet requirements to the fullest extent. SIMS is progressing, and together we raise the bar for responsible behaviour. For us, sustainability is intertwined with improvement, progress and growth.  

Combined, SIMS and ESMS form a robust set of policies, procedures and human resources and roles essential to our sustainability strategy. They support us in striving to meet all the mandatory standards expected of a mining company, ultimately benefiting an increasingly complex and demanding group of social and other partners.
